About Ayo Heinegg Magwood

Ayo Heinegg Magwood is a professional genealogist and senior researcher with Black Ancestries, specializing in pre- and post-1870 African American lineage research, court and estate record analysis, and Southern and Mid-Atlantic archival collections. She partners with her father, renowned genealogist Paul Heinegg, to trace complex enslaved and free African American families, combining rigorous genealogical methodology with over two decades of experience as an international economic research analyst and educator. Applied using the Genealogical Proof Standard (GPS), her research has been published in academic journals and leading family history platforms. She frequently presents at regional and national conferences, as well as live webinars, on strategies for overcoming the 1870 brick wall and researching Free People of Color.
